A new UFO has appeared on the Parisian landscape! JR, the artist famous for his "facade makeovers" of emblematic monuments around the world, is this time tackling the visual metamorphosis of the Palais Garnier in a two-act performance. After plastering theOpera House with a photographic collage illustrating a trompe l'oeil grotto, JR will once again give the building's facade a makeover in November.

For this new decor, the artist is collaborating with Atelier Montex, resident house of 19M, for a free introductory embroidery workshop entitled"MANO HABILIS". From September 15 to November 5, 2023, head to the Chanel métiers d'art HQ in Paris's 19th arrondissement, to contribute to the monumental installation that will adorn the façade of the Palais Garnier in November 2023. Guided by expert embroiderers, each participant will leave his or her handprint in threads, like metaphorical self-portraits, which will cover the interior of the cave, cradle of cave art and self-awareness.
At the end of the workshop, participants can immortalize their experience in one of JR's iconic photomatons, to keep their black-and-white photo portrait as a souvenir, along with their embroidered handprint.
And to round off their visit to 19M in style, they can also discover the Gallery's new exhibition,"Carla Fernández. The handmade future."
"MANO HABILIS" also marks the premise of an ephemeral cultural garden, imagined by 19M and its partners, an exciting project scheduled for spring 2024. Set up in a vacant lot adjacent to the 19M, the space promises multi-disciplinary events around contemporary creation, the living world and handicrafts, while contributing to the greening of the city.
All that's left for you to do is lend a hand, and contribute your stone to the edifice ... or your hand ... Finally, you've got it!
