But Hellfest is also an exceptional site located in the vineyards of Nantes, where there's no shortage of entertainment, installations and works of art. Every evening, as night falls, the festival lights up to feast our eyes. And then there are the metal sculptures that adorn the site in incredible fashion. Here are 6 installations and animations not to be missed this summer on the Hellfest site.
This is undoubtedly one of the must-see installations at Hellfest this summer. As part of a European tour, this monumental work of art makes a stopover in Clisson from June 15 to 18, before landing in Paris a few weeks later.
" Charon's Wheel " is a work created in 2011 by Peter Hudson for Burning Man, the famous American gathering held every year in Nevada's Black Rock Desert. Needless to say, this intriguing and fascinating artistic installation is sure to attract many curious onlookers to the Valley stage, where " Charon's Wheel " will be installed for the duration of the festival.
Charon's Wheel: Burning Man's incredible installation comes to Paris this summer
It's called "Charon's Wheel" and was created by American artist Peter Hudson for the Burning Man festival. This summer, this monumental installation is touring Europe, with a stopover in Paris from July 11 to 30, 2023. [Read more]
If you've never been to Hellfest before, and this 2023 edition is a big first, then here's a work of art you won't want to miss. The new Lemmy Kilmister statue was inaugurated in 2022, replacing the one erected in 2016, but damaged by bad weather and numerous visitors.
The new statue, designed as a tribute to the Motörhead frontman, is impressive in its size. Reaching a height of 12 metres and weighing almost 5 tonnes, this sublime monumental work is by Caroline Brisset.
If you're afraid of heights, don't do it. For the rest of you, go for it! Located opposite the Mainstages, the Hellfest Ferris wheel is a must-see attraction, and one you'll want to do at least once! It's a chance to get up high, get a good look at the gigantic site, surrounded by the vineyards of Nantes, and see the impressive work done by the entire festival team, all from a height of 30 meters! Prices start at 5 euros for three turns of the wheel.
This is an event that some festival-goers wouldn't miss for the world. Every evening, as the sun sets to make way for darkness, flames dance not far from the " Kingdom of Muscadet ". This is the Madneom fire pyramid.
The concept? Dazzle Hellfest festival-goers with artistic performances around fire, thanks to a talented team who manage the lighting and animation of the pyramid. And every time, you'll be amazed!
A must for all festival-goers. Just before entering the official Hellfest site, festival-goers gather in Hell City Square to stroll through the many partner stands, discover the exhibitors' gallery, enjoy the huge metal market and, of course, listen to concerts on the famous small stage. This year, Hell City Square has the honor of welcoming the SPA, to " make metalheads with tender hearts fall in love ".
The Society for the Protection of Animals stand, dubbed the"LOVE SHELLTER", is an opportunity for festival-goers to meet the association's teams and discover the profiles of the animals up for adoption. And the SPA has thought of everything, as the stand will feature ephemeral tattoos by artists from the Skinjackin collective, limited edition SPA x Hellfest rock goodies, a giant collection of donations for the SPA, not to mention happenings by Ultra Vomit. In fact, the famous band produced an original clip to announce the SPA 's presence at Hellfest.
It's a ritual that festival-goers always enjoy. To bring the event to a fitting close, Hellfest puts on a magnificent pyrotechnic display every year. Usually held after the last concert on the Mainstage on Sunday evening, this fireworks display is a fitting way to bid a fond farewell to Hellfest, before a wonderful reunion the following year. Last year, during the second weekend celebrating the festival's 15th anniversary, the fireworks display lasted around ten minutes.
