An exhibition that doesn't need to rise from the ashes... As part ofAustralia Now 2021, an event celebrating Australian culture in France, Galerie XII is devoting an exhibition to photographer Vee Speers, entitled Phoenix, Rise from the Ashes, which runs from May 28 to July 17, 2021.
This completely new exhibition is inspired by the legendary bird which, at the moment of its death, bursts into flames and is reborn from its ashes. Rise from the Ashes features portraits of women warriors, powerful and contemplative, all looking to the future while thinking"of the ghosts of the past". The decorum for these shots is not insignificant either, since the vegetated backgrounds echo Vee Speers ' youth in the heart of Queensland, and refer to"the lush, dense vegetation, mangroves and fiery sugarcane fields of northern Australia".
Alongside these photographs, other images are also presented, from the series The Birthday Party, Bulletproof and Dystopia. These works provide an insight into the long career of this renowned photographer, who has been exploring"human nature through enigmatic portraits" for over fifteen years. It's also an opportunity to discover an artist and a bit of Australian culture through these striking shots. Shall we go, friends?
