When art and science meet... The Maison Poincaré invites you to discover its new exhibition, entitled Sensation Quantique, from April 10 to July 26, 2025. Through a series of immersive works by Caroline Delétoille, the exhibition plunges the curious into the intricacies of quantum physics, making it more accessible and "palpable". An opportunity to discover, in a sensory way, a discipline renowned for its complexity and abstraction.
Theexhibition is part of a joint research-creation project by philosopher of emotions Céline Boisserie-Lacroix(Institut Jean Nicod, ENS-EHESS), artist Caroline Delétoille and physicist Aurore Young(Laboratoire Kastler Brossel, Collège de France). The project draws on the work of the Laboratoire Kastler Brossel in Paris and the Stewart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute at theUniversity of British Columbia in Vancouver. The aim is to offer an alternative approach to quantum mechanics, a highly mathematized discipline that often eludes sensory intuition.
Through the paintings of Caroline Delétoille, Sensation Quantique seeks to make accessible, through aesthetic experience, that which is most disconcerting about quantum physics: an invisible, counter-intuitive world, where the objects studied evade our senses. As the famous Danish physicist Niels Bohr put it: " It must be understood that, when it comes to atoms, language can only be used in the manner of poetry. The poet is not so much trying to describe facts as to create images and mental connections ". A sentence that sums up the ambition of this exhibition.
The installation, conceived as an immersive journey, aims to awaken a new awareness of the realities revealed by quantum physics. Combining science, philosophy and art, Sensation Quantique offers a multi-disciplinary experience, without claiming to solve the mysteries of this theory, but suggesting its possible dizziness.
