No more trekking to the other end of France, or spending weeks or weekends hiking across the country to find a nice spot to walk: theParis region is criss-crossed or bypassed by numerous long-distance hiking trails. These include the GR 1, which circumnavigates the Île-de-France region, the GR 75, which circumnavigates Paris, and the GR 2, which runs along the Seine from Montereau (77) to Le Havre.
The GR 2, poetically known as the "sentier de la Seine", covers 858 kilometers from the source of the Seine to Le Havre: along this immense route, which the Fédération Française de Randonnée (French Hiking Federation) recommends to be broken down into (very) many stages, you follow the Seine and its pretty bends, discovering small villages and their banks. In the Île-de-France region, the GR 2 links Montereau in the Seine-et-Marne département to the picturesque troglodyte village of La Roche-Guyon in the Val-d'Oise. Each of the stages is within easy reach of the Navigo pass or the TER Ile-de-France network, with station-to-station hikes.
Along the way, discover bucolic villages in the region, from Bois-le-Roi to La Roche-Guyon, via the Ablon lock in Essonne, Lake Daumesnil in Paris, Lake Créteil, the pretty town of Conflans... Sail along the Seine on foot, in search of a change of scenery, with sections ranging from 2 to 12.5 km, which you can add up as you like!
With few gradients and virtually no technical sections, the GR2 is also perfect for hiking beginners and children! To discover the itineraries of this long-distance hiking trail, remember to buy the dedicated topoguide, or some sections are available on the MaRando app, with the official routes of the Fédération Française de Randonnée.
