Montlhéry castle, in theEssonne department of France, is a veritable fortified castle dating back to the time of the Capetian kings, and has been destroyed and rebuilt many times over the centuries. It was here, moreover, that Louis IX took refuge during the barons' revolt. In 1840, the château, which we knowtoday onlyin ruins, was listed as a Monument Historique. A single tower dominates the canton of Montlhéry, standing 30 metres and 183 steps high, and can be climbed on a self-guided tour at certain times of the year!
Drawing on this rich medieval heritage, the town of Montlhéry is organizing its 7th Medieval Festival on Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22, 2024, with a rich program for young and old alike! Come and feast as in the days of the great lords during this festive weekend, featuring the town's traditional medieval market, juggling demonstrations, acrobatics, singing and even a fire show! Tours of the medieval tower are also on the program, as are guided tours of the town's heritage. All events take place in the Parc de la Souche, and if you're coming by car, you can park in the parking lot at the fairground for the day.
