Vignes en Ville is first and foremost thestory of a group of friends who took advantage of the past year to scour the vineyards, estates and châteaux of France to find some great pins to bring back to Paris. With their suitcases full of good vintages, they set up their eco-responsible wine cellar on rue Poissonnière.
And yes, Vignes en Ville is unveiling a concept that is still little-known in Paris: bulk wine! We'll explain. Like draught beers, this new-style wine cellar offers red, white and rosé enthusiasts wines to be drawn directly from the casks.
Among the good wines we sipped were the Gamay from Château de Champ-Renard (7€ a glass, 29€ a bottle), the excellent Rasteau from Domaine Rabasse-Charavin (7€, 29€), the white Beaujolais 'Le Bobo' from Château de Champ-Renard (7€, 29€), which will make you forget all your preconceptions about Beaujolais, or a white wine that's not yet on the menu - but should be very soon - with flavors reminiscent of apple cider, a delight.
In the imposing barrels that cover an entire wall of Vignes en Ville, you'll find short-run wines that respect natural production processes as well as environmental and ecological criteria. In other words, the wines here are organic or from estates in the process of going organic.
In this bulk wine bar, you have two options: you can spend a pleasant evening with friends, trying out the local vintages, or you can leave with a bottle of wine you've chosen and filled yourself at the vat.
The bottles are sealed with wax, with a one-euro deposit; the idea being to bring them back next time... to leave with a new vintage at home! A virtuous, eco-responsible cycle that emphasizes the short circuit, eliminates dispensable industrial intermediaries and lowers the carbon footprint of these beautiful bottles.
If you choose to spend an evening on site, note that Vignes en Ville offers a selection of quality charcuterie, led by truffled Italian ham, Corsican charcuterie and Lastre pâté en croûte; cheeses including a Mont d'Or to savor before the end of the season; and to accompany delicious breads from Terroirs d'Avenir.
Hot and cold tartines will also find takers; we recommend the Vivien tartine (16€), with Reblochon, truffled white ham, pear and walnut, to share with friends. These will cost you between 12€ and 16€, and the charcuterie between 6€ and 15€, depending on the meat and quantity you choose. There's plenty to enjoy without breaking the bank.
Vignes en Ville is a must for wine lovers, with its bonhomie owners, good atmosphere even on weekday evenings, and choice keels.
