Considered as one of the most ancient Japanese restaurants in town, Kifuné is also one of these unmissable addresses promising a sensational and delicious journey to the Country of the Rising Sun thanks to a rich menu and genuine recipes.

Spread the word, if Japanese restaurants in Paris are always crowded, they’re not always worth the trip. If you don’t want to be disappointed and want to enjoy a genuine gustatory immersion to the Country of the Rising Sun, then head to one of the best tables in Paris: Kifuné.

This small and traditional restaurant with its carved wood façade is set near the Porte Maillot in Paris 17th arrondissement for already 30 years now.

Kifuné has become a place highly visited by Japanese flavors lovers as well as Japanese themselves.

We must say that everything has been designed to make us enjoy a delightful and delicious moment. First, we are welcomed in Japanese, then, waitresses wearing traditional kimonos and geta ushered us to the room, always with a smile.

And speaking of the dining room, there are several options, you can seat in the main room or in one of the small corners – very coveted – or even at the bar to better watch the chef working and thoroughly cut fish. As for us, we’ll seat at the bar, there’s nothing quite like good smells and beautiful plates parading in front of us to whet the appetite.

As for the plates, Kifuné bets on diversity with the timeless and very fresh sushi and sashimi based on salmon, fat tuna or even ell, as well as agemonos, yakimonos and nimonos.

As for us, we went for the traditional dishes such as the incredible plate of clams marinière with sake. To try absolutely! Another specialty we loved that night, the miso-fried eggplants.

We continue with hearty fried shrimps and chicken fritters.

As for the rest, Kifuné proposes dishes based on nattō, as well as squid and even some bonito tataki.

Last but not least, Kifuné doesn’t leave out sweet-toothed patrons with the unmissable and very tasty mochis. Several flavors are available including yuzu, adzuki and even chocolate.

The bonus? The large selection of sake likely to delight even the finest palates!

Both fresh, gourmet and genuine, Kifuné dishes have totally seduced our taste buds by unveiling incredible flavors. Yet, we highly recommend booking a table before you come.

Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
