On the corner of a crossroads in the middle of the Champs, the Crêperie Cavrosa in Chevreuse has a lot going for it. Between Mesnil-Saint-Denis and Saint-Rémy-Lès-Chevreuse, not far from the Château de la Madeleine, we're off to discover this charming spot, ideal for a family meal, a sweet break or a stop-off on your motorcycle ride.
Crêperie Cavrosa is nestled in the Relais Saint-Laurent, a former coaching inn converted into a bed & breakfast and events venue. Let's face it, when you arrive, you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by greenery. The good thing is that the restaurant and its rooms have ample free parking, so there's no need to look for spaces, which is perfect, especially for people with reduced mobility.
Having said that, even though it's a little out of the way, it's still often full, which makes us wary. If you want to come along, we advise you to make a reservation, as this well-known address has its regulars and is frequently fully booked. It's easy to book: just go online and choose your day and time slot. Once you've confirmed your reservation by e-mail, you're sure to get your table.
The decor is somewhere between a typical Breton crêperie and a country inn. Exposed beams, central fireplace, wooden tables, bolets on the tables, the atmosphere is convivial. The only original touch is the motorcycle that sits along one wall, a testament to the owners' passion. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why this spot is so popular with motorcyclists on the move.
At La Cavrosa, you'll enjoy local products from the Yvelines region. For example, the flour comes from La Ferme de la Budinerie in Cernay-la-Ville. The sausages come from the neighboring farm, transforming the simple country sausage galette into a tasty, gourmet crepe. What's more, most of the products are organic, which makes all the difference! The galettes and crêpes are generous, and the options are original.
We love the Saint-Paterne with smoked duck breast, goat's cheese, walnuts, pears and honey, served with salad. Younger diners fall for the generous Breizh burger, which combines ground steak, grated Emmental cheese, tomato, onions and Cheddar, just like a burger. The Reblochon, with its grilled potatoes, cheese and bacon, is plump, while the Cavrosa, with its chorizo, egg, shallots and crème fraiche, is a pleasure to swallow.
The galettes are well-cooked, crisp, with just the right amount of filling, and a good time is had by all. Accompanied by bowls of farmhouse cider, we're well on our way. For dessert, the crêpes au froment take us to all the islands of Brittany, from Belle Ile with its melting apples and salted butter caramel, to the island of Batz with its bananas, maple syrup and homemade whipped cream. For our part, we opt for the excellent Île de Molène with its bananas, homemade salted butter caramel and flambéed rum. Expect to pay around 12€ for a galette gourmande and 5 to 9€ for a sweet version.
So, why not treat yourself to a gourmet getaway in Chevreuse?
