Saint-Germain-des-Prés may be famous for its legendary brasseries and bourgeois addresses, but fortunately this central Paris neighborhood also boasts a number of more affordable but equally tasty addresses for smaller pockets and gourmets in a hurry.
Such is the case with Galette Café, a small neighborhood crêperie serving simple Breton galettes, wheat crêpes and oysters. Behind the address are two siblings, Albane and Baptiste, who have chosen to focus on French and local products. After all, not all crêperies in Paris are created equal, far from it!
From the Cancale oysters to the brut or doux cidre, everything exudes Brittany and good food. As for prices, they're pretty affordable for the neighborhood: count €16.90 for the lunch menu with galette and crêpe, €25.50 for the galette and 6 oysters menu, and €28.50 for the gourmet menu with 6 oysters, galette and crêpe. Enough to leave with a full belly.
Off the menu, the prices of the crêpes and galettes may well send shivers down the spines of native Bretons, but they'll come as no surprise to die-hard Parisians. The incomparable full galette (11.50€) is of course on the menu, as are fancier recipes featuring artisanal black pudding (14.50€), beechwood-smoked salmon (15.90€), traditional grilled sausage (15.90€) and andouille de Guémené (15.90€).
Our buckwheat pancake with goat's cheese does its job perfectly, with butter-roasted apples, chestnut honey, walnuts and old wine vinaigrette, for a sweet-savory pairing that works well. The same goes for our banana-chocolate crêpe (€8), which we happily wolf down in the sunshine - the restaurant opens entirely onto the street, ideal for fine weather. Aesthetes may even be tempted by the traditional crêpes Suzette, available on Galette Café 's à la carte menu!
