Brittany comes to Paris at Maison Bretonne, an authentic Breton crêperie a stone's throw from the famous Saint-Paul carrousel. It's not always easy to find a crêperie worthy of the name in Paris, but at Maison Bretonne, quality is the order of the day, and you can go there with your eyes closed!
Behind the counter (and in front of the billig) is chef France, who has been immersed in the restaurant business since childhood and is already behind Food Breizh in Paris, a stone's throw from the Assemblée Nationale. So this time, we're heading to the lower Marais to discover the tasty creations of Maison Bretonne.
The crêperie's decor, entirely sourced from the Brest area, reflects the family feel of the place. From Brittany, the owner has also brought back a wealth of fresh, mostly organic produce which, when combined, produce recipes that are sometimes classic, sometimes creative.
On the menu of this restaurant, open non-stop from Monday to Sunday, are just a handful of galettes bretonnes (which is a good sign, let's face it!), from the simplest complete galette (12€) to the most generous creation, such as the very good Founus galette (17€) with a complete base, plus forest mushrooms, smoked bacon and andouille sausage; the galette with smoked Molène sausage and seaweed (13€) or the vegetarian galette with smoked portobello and seaweed tartar (13€).
There's enough to satisfy every craving for galettes and even more, as Maison Bretonne has chosen to break away from the classic crêperie menu to highlight other products and specialties from Brittany, offered as starters to share (or not). Like these sardine rillettes from the Eckmühl lighthouse (€6.50), this plate of Andouille des Dames (€10.50) and this plate of Breton cheeses (€10.50).
There's nothing better to accompany these crispy galettes than a bottle of cider, and what a choice! There are no less than a dozen to choose from, from the sweetest to the most brut, with a description of the aromas to help you make your choice.
To finish on a high note, there are several options: an artisanal ice cream from Jampi in Brest, a typically Breton dessert (far, kouign-amann), or of course a wheat crêpe! The question is whether you're more the classic type (sugar, jam or honey crepes) or more the gourmet type. In that case, you'll have to go for the crêpe Suzette (10.50€), the crêpe with roasted apple and salted caramel (8.50€) or the crêpe du moment with roasted peaches with rosemary and honey (8.50€).
Enough to make you want to go and get some fresh air in Brittany!
