On Sunday, September 8, 2024, the Paralympic Marathon takes place, crossing a good part of the Seine-Saint-Denis department and Paris, leading to traffic restrictions and road closures, from La Courneuve to Paris. We take a look at the situation together.

Do you have to take your car this Sunday, September 8? Watch out for traffic restrictions on this day in the heart of Seine-Saint-Denis. This weekend, due to the Paralympic marathon, traffic conditions will be difficult by car. The 42.195 km race will pass through several towns in Seine-Saint-Denis, finishing in Paris. The successive passages of the men's and women's marathons will block traffic in these areas.

Roads will be closed on Sunday morning for the marathon , which starts at 8am from the Parc Départemental Georges-Valbon in La Courneuve. The marathon will pass through 7 communes: La Courneuve, Le Bourget, Drancy, Bobigny, Pantin, Saint-Denis and Aubervilliers, and there will be plenty of entertainment for supporters and accompanying persons from 10am, at the Parc des Jeux in La Courneuve.

For car traffic, from 3 a.m. onwards, a sliding closure (with a barricade) will be in place until 5 a.m. on the marathon route. From 5 a.m. to 8.15 a.m., all lanes on the course will be closed to traffic, followed by a sliding closure from 8.15 a.m., depending on the competition. Only the course lanes will be closed. Between 5 a.m. and 11 a.m., motorized traffic will be prohibited.

For local residents, whether pedestrians or vehicular traffic (all types of vehicle), controlled access will be in place from 3am until 7am, when local residents will be prohibited from using these roads. From 8.15 a.m., access will again be controlled, until traffic returns to normal. Please note, however, that pedestrians and cyclists will be able to cross the route at various points.
