While Paris-Saint-Germain is particularly well known for its soccer section, the Parisian club has also established itself in other sports in recent years, supporting athletes you're all familiar with by now! Unfortunately, the French handball team, which contains several PSG players such as the Karabatic brothers or Elohim Prandi, didn't shine at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, but other athletes in both soccer and judo, brought home medals from the club!
The Paris Saint-Germain judo section, founded in 2017, was represented from the outset by Teddy Riner. The following year, a judo school was created and 14 judokas were recruited. At the Paris Games, the harvest was particularly good, with almost all our medallists coming from PSG! Among them were Luka Mkheidze, Romane Dicko and Amandine Buchard (who has just left the club for a new project), as well as Alpha Djalo, Marie-Eve Gahié and Walide Khyar, in addition to Teddy of course, who won the team gold medal.
Two Georgian judokas also play for PSG: Lasha Bekauri, who won gold in the -90kg class, and Tato Grigalashvili, who took silver in the -81kg class. Quite a record for Parisian judo! On the soccer front, the club did not let any of its young Parisians go, and so did not play a part in our French team's fine silver medal. On the other hand, Achraf Hakimi won bronze with Morocco and goalkeeper Arnau Tenas is Olympic champion with Spain! In women's soccer, it was the United States who won gold, and PSG player Korbin Albert.
