This year, the 69th Eurovision Song Contest is being held in Basel, Switzerland, following Nemo's victory last year. Before that, the country had already won the song contest twice. Here's a look back at Switzerland's 3 Eurovision victories!

On May 17, all eyes will be on Basel, host city of the 69thEurovision Song Contest. This spring, Switzerland hosts the famous song contest, following Nemo 's triumph last year with his song " The Code ".

This country, known for its beautiful mountains, chocolate, fondue, watches and cuckoo clocks, is also a formidableEurovision challenger. The country has won 3 times to date. But Switzerland is still a long way behind Sweden, considered to be the country with the most victories in the contest (7 in total out of 64 participations since 1958). With the 69th Eurovision Song Contest just a few weeks away, we take a look back at Switzerland's 3 victories!

Lys Assia - " Refrain " - 1956

Switzerland 's first Eurovision win dates back to 1956. That year, the small country was represented by Lys Assia. For the occasion, she performed the song"Refrain", sung entirely in French. This song won her first place in the 1956 contest against 13 other competitors.

Lys Assia represented Switzerland again at the Eurovision Song Contest, the following year in 1957 with the song"L'Enfant que j'étais" (8th place) and again in 1958 with the song"Giorgio" (2nd place).

Céline Dion - " Ne partez pas sans moi " - 1988

Switzerland 's second Eurovision victory is certainly the best-known. In 1988, the country was represented by... Céline Dion. At the time, the Quebec artist had been chosen in a national final organized by the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation. And her choice paid off! For its 33rd participation in the contest, Switzerland won the final for the second time in its history, thanks to Céline Dion and her song"Ne Partez pas sans Moi".

At the time, this victory was marked by breathless suspense, with Switzerland edging out the United Kingdom and its candidate Scott Fitzgerald by just a single point!

Nemo - " The Code " - 2024

Switzerland will then have to wait until 2024 to win the Eurovision Song Contest for the third time, thanks to Nemo. In total, his song"The Code" topped the jury votes with 365 points. Thanks to 226 points from viewers, the Swiss artist scored 591 points to win the contest by 44 points over Croatia and its representative Baby Lasagna.

So, will Switzerland manage to win the contest again and add another victory to its list of honours? The answer is this spring, when the 69thEurovision Song Contest takes place.
