Day three at Hellfest! After two explosive days in Clisson, the festival dedicated to extreme music continued its momentum and offered us yet more memorable moments, marked by concerts by Alien Weaponry, Brutus, Uuhai, Kvelertak and of course Metallica, not forgetting the arrival of rain at the beginning and end of the day. Here's a look back at Saturday June 29, 2024.
While the sun had so far shone down on the Clisson site, the rain unfortunately invited itself to Hellfest on Saturday June 29, 2024, starting in the morning. But the rain didn't stop the festival-goers. They dressed accordingly, and brought out the rain gear of choice for any festival-goer: the famous poncho, preferably black at Hellfest.
The first highlight of the day was the powerful and invigorating set from New Zealand's Alien Weaponry! This isn't the first time the trio has taken over the Clisson site. In fact, Alien Weaponry have already performed at Hellfest twice in recent years (2019 and 2022). And once again, the combo took us on a journey. At the start of the concert, the drummer even gave us an impressive demonstration of the famous haka on Mainstage 1!
The rest of Alien Weaponry 's set was just as exhilarating, with energetic thrash metal that would have festival-goers headbanging, blended with their Maori roots. The result is an incredibly spellbinding style, driven by an energetic trio that we're likely to be hearing about for a long time to come. And fans were ecstatic when Alien Weapony performed their excellent singles " Hatupatu " and " Kai Tangata ".
At 12.15pm on Saturday, the Temple was packed to the rafters for Uuhai 's first-ever Hellfest concert. It has to be said that their compatriots The HU, invited last year, were a big hit and delighted many festival-goers in 2023. As a result, many were keen to discover Uuhai this year. Mongolian folk-rock/metal band Uuhai really got the crowd going, with their exotic sounds, traditional throat singing and horse-headed violins!
And the atmosphere was just right for Uuhai 's very first Hellfest concert. The Mongolian-born band even managed to seat almost the entire audience under the Temple on Saturday lunchtime. And the audience had a field day, swinging their arms and bodies back and forth, creating a unique, offbeat moment of joy.
The Valley was packed on Saturday afternoon for Brutus ' return to Hellfest! The post-hardcore trio from Belgium seemed surprised by the crowd, and very touched. The band, led by Stijn Vanhoegaerden on guitar, Peter Mulders on bass and the talented and impressive Stefanie Mannaerts on drums and vocals, put on a powerful and highly successful set in thanks.
A new favorite of the day for this Brutus show, illuminated by Stefanie Mannaerts' raspy voice, by the trio's obvious complicity and by the hits played this afternoon, including " Miles Away ", " What Have We Done ", not forgetting the sublime " What Have We Done ", a blend of melancholy and anger. With this latest concert at Hellfest, Brutus has well and truly confirmed its undeniable talent and its position as a key player on the international metal scene!
Another bubbling set from Norway's Kvelertak! After a highly acclaimed show in 2019, the combo, led by the energetic and supercharged Ivar Nikolaisen, once again got festival-goers bopping and slamming. This time, the band was at the Valley, also packed to the rafters. Kvelertak is renowned for its high-octane performances, led by band members whose boundless energy is infectious. Explosive and rock'n'roll, pure fury!
Saturday was also the occasion to attend the incredible Gardienne des Ténèbres show put on by La Compagnie La Machine. Every evening from 10pm, the famous Gardienne des Ténèbres wakes up in front of the Kingdom of Muscadet. Spitting fire and water, La Compagnie La Machine's latest creation is incredibly fascinating. With her piercing gaze and the many details on her torso, the illusion is perfect. As for the Company's work on the Guardian's legs and tail, it's simply breathtaking. Thank you Hellfest for this moment of wonder!
Metallica was , of course, the headliner at Hellfest on Saturday June 29, 2024! After their huge concert in 2022, the legendary Californian thrash metal band were keen to return to Clisson, and to turn the Mainstage upside down once again. Although it rained at the start of the concert, Metallica quickly warmed up the crowd with their many hits on Saturday night. From " Creeping Death " to " Master of Puppets ", not forgetting " Enter Sandman ", " Sad but True ", " For Whom the Bell Tolls " or the more recent " Lux Æterna " and " Shadows Follow "... Despite the poor sound quality at times, and disregarding the failed Indochine cover, Metallica delivered a very dynamic set and kept the show going for a little over 2 hours, all topped off with pyrotechnic effects, two drums protruding from the pit and huge balloons, bearing the effigy of the latest album, thrown into the audience. A great thrash metal moment in the company of a legendary band you just can't get enough of!
The fourth and final day of Hellfest takes place on Sunday, June 30, with eagerly awaited concerts by Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Nova Twins and Dimmu Borgir!
