To coincide with the Rugby World Cup 2023 in France, an exhibition will be on show in the Paris region this autumn, retracing the history of the oval ball through two centuries of sport. Hundreds of rugby-related works will be on display to the public in the VIP lounges of Paris's 17th arrondissement from September 8 to 30, before moving to L'Escale in Levallois-Perret from October 13 to November 18, 2023. It's also the 200th anniversary of the discipline's creation!
A unique opportunity to admire the creations of rugby players themselves, as gifted on the field as they are in art, as well as those of international artists who have managed to capture the spirit of the sport in their canvases, sculptures and other creative media.
A total of 63 artists took part, for an exhibition of almost 300 works, sponsored by Abdelatif Benazzi, former French rugby XV international. An exceptional fusion of art and sport, to observe all the nuances of the oval ball in detail from another point of view, and free of charge!
Not-to-be-missed works include a rugby ball encased in Plexiglas, autographed by XV de France players and created by Laurence JENK; a new Tintin adventure in rugby country, imagined by Eric Liot; a superb imitation of an oriental rug with sporting motifs by Christopher Croft; and portraits of players, both static and in motion, each more lively than the last.
During the exhibition, rugby fans will also be able to enjoy World Cup match broadcasts on site, in the town hall's salle des fêtes!
