A day in Meaux (77), the bucolic destination on the banks of the Marne River

In the Seine-et-Marne département, the town of Meaux is famous for its Saint-Etienne cathedral, but above all, for the little cheese to which it gives its name: Brie de Meaux. So, get your good shoes ready: we're off to discover Meaux for a day!

A 50-minute drive from the capital, or just as much by public transport on line P of the Transilien (from Gare de l'Est, you get off at Meaux), or, for the more sporty, a good 50 kilometers by bike along the cycle path from the Bassin de la Villette, makes Meaux a pretty little town to discover for a day, for a change of scenery in the fresh air.

Built as early as the 12th century, Saint-Etienne's Cathedral is Gothic in style, with an impressive façade.

• The episcopal city and the Bossuet museum

A few steps from the cathedral, continue your stroll through the city's historic center and enter the Episcopal City, home to the Bossuet Museum, dedicated to the city's art and history.

• Bossuet garden

Opposite the Cité épiscopale, the Bossuet garden offers a walk along its beautiful avenue of lime trees, amid flower beds, with a view of the bell tower of Saint-Etienne cathedral.

• The house of Brie de Meaux

It's hard to miss this characteristic of the town, so much so that it marks the territory: here, Brie de Meaux is part of a religion and even has its own brotherhood!

• The Great War Museum

Plunge into the heart of the 14-18 war in the collections of the Musée de la Grande Guerre to discover the history of this bellicose period that marked the beginning of the 20th century in Europe.

• Pâtis Park

Known for hosting Meaux-les-Bains, Meaux's little beach, every summer, the park is a lovely green spot in the town for a stroll along the Marne.
