Do you like good retro music and good brunch? We've come up with a great way to combine these two pleasures: Brunch at Bistrot Podium. We've already told you about Bistrot Podium, the festive restaurant located in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, near the Centre Beaugrenelle. You know, the first of the Bistrots Pas Parisiens in Paris intramuros, with a menu by Glenn Viel that wakes up the sleepyheads in all of us!
From now on, every Sunday from 12:00 to 19:00, you can enjoy a generous brunch in a glittering, rhinestone atmosphere. Imagine disco balls, 70s/80s orange decor, a huge open space and Bonnie and Clide at the piano and microphone. It's a total retro cliché, and we love it.
On arrival, each table is presented with a basket of plump pastries. Once you've settled in, you order your choice of hot drink (for us, it's cappuccino) and fresh juice (orange or grapefruit). At Bistrot Podium, you don't get all-you-can-eat brunch, but we assure you, you won't come out any the worse for it. And for €40, it's pretty hearty.
As the duo of singers and pianist set the tone by taking us through the most beautiful retro songs from Abba to Michel Berger, the table fills with toast and jams, eggs Benedict and avocado toast to share with two (fortunately, he's rather greedy).
Once the preliminaries are over, it's time to get down to business. You have to choose between the Caesar salad for the sensible, the Parisian croque for the aficionados and the burger and fries for the hungry. Since we're reasonable, but not too reasonable, we opt for the house burger and the salad, which we share. The fries are fresh and good, the burger hides a good beef effiloché that's easy to gobble up, while the salad gives us a clear conscience.
Meanwhile, the meal is punctuated by the music of the place and we start singing the songs we love. Then comes the trio of desserts, combining fruit salad, pancakes and chocolate mousse. We're carried away by the rhythm of classic French variété from the 70s and 80s, which continues until 7pm with a DJ set.
To make the most of the brunch, make sure you book in advance, and head over at noon for the full menu. You can also join the party along the way by buying paying tickets on Shotgun.
