Located in the Vallée de Chevreuse , in the charming and peaceful town of Choisel in the Yvelines (between Dampierre, Chevreuse and Cernay-la-Ville), the Auberge des 3 Hameaux, closed in 1965, has been revived thanks to the impetus of the commune and Soazig Seguis, its manager. The restaurant, which also serves as a chambre d'hôte, now offers a gourmet bistronomic menu and an excellent brunch.
This country house-style setting, with bay windows overlooking the garden and surrounding countryside, is the place to come for one Sunday a month(booking required), to enjoy one of the best brunches in the region. The 80 m² dining room has 50 covers, not including the terrace which is open on sunny days, so you can enjoy your meal or brunch in the sunshine, weather permitting.
This all-you-can-eat brunch costs €40 per person. It includes self-service hot drinks and fresh juices, as well as numerous quiches, gourmet salads, salmon gravlax, charcuterie, oysters, local cheeses and other seasonal creations.
Here, everything is homemade. The emphasis is on vegetables and fresh produce. At the Auberge des 3 Hameaux, we love onion tatin, artichoke cream, radish cheesecake, rosbeef and vegetarian wellington. We're all about spicy seasonings and products from local artisans.
As for bread, the house buys from a good artisan bakery in Clairefontaine, and the jams come from "Au-dessus, sur l'étagère du haut", a craftsman from Essonne.
Once you've gobbled up your toast, focaccia, chouquettes and starters, it's time to move on to hot dishes on demand. We don't forget the famous fried or scrambled eggs, accompanied by bacon if you like. That Sunday, we also served marinated pork ribs with roasted celeriac, mushrooms, carrot purée or a mishmash of potato and vegetable gnocchi.
The pastries are all homemade, from flan marbré to exotic fruit pavlovas, coconut entremets, tiramisu, blackcurrant clafoutis, vanilla and rhubarb choux, giant cherry baba, not forgetting seasonal strawberry tarts and crêpes with chocolate spread.
Enjoy the enchanting surroundings while the kids run around in the garden.
So, with so many good things to discover, why just one Sunday a month? We put the question to the manager, who tells us that the local, older clientele like to return to her restaurant and its classic service of home-cooked, freshly-produced dishes. Brunch is more a story for the young.
Given the quality of the brunch dishes, it's not hard to imagine feasting on creative plates featuring vegetables and herbs on the other Sundays of the month, as well as on other days.
