Did you know that you could face the Château de Versailles while sitting on a quiet terrace? La Cour des Senteurs is a little paradise away from the hustle and bustle of Versailles. This is where you'll find Chez Molly, a charming tearoom whose decor is somewhere between Marie-Antoinette and Alice in Wonderland.
Every weekend, Saturday and Sunday, you can enjoy an all-you-can-eat brunch, from 12.30pm to 2.45pm on Saturdays and in two sessions from 11am to 12.45pm and 1.15pm to 3.15pm on Sundays. For €39.90, you get a hot drink of your choice, an all-you-can-eat sweet and savory buffet and a dessert to choose from a fine range of cakes, all lovingly homemade, we're told. The rest of the time, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays from 12pm to 6pm, and Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, you can enjoy the tea room with its delicious pastries and innovative cocktails.
The head of the salon de Thé is Molly, a lawyer by profession, but an inveterate foodie who loves pastries. To give free rein to her passion, she decided two years ago to open a tearoom a stone's throw from her law office in Versailles. To delight us, she focuses on fresh, local produce, buying from the nearby Halles de Versailles, getting her salmon from Pétrossian, her Champagne from small producers and her tea from Nina's Marie Antoinette, supplier to the royal court since 1672.
Coffee from Illy, chai from La Main Noire, pastries from Maison Hervet in Versailles and cocktails imagined by Matthias Giroud, the great mixologist we love, that's what awaits you. Everything else is homemade, on the premises, in a joyful, cheerful atmosphere.
We're equally at home indoors, under cover, or outside, soaking up the sun on the lovely terrace. We start our brunch with a choice of hot beverage. Coffee, cappuccino, chocolate, latte or macchiato are all available. As it's hot, we opt for the Ice coffee latte (yes, it's not a hot drink, but it's the same thing).
Our next choice is viennoiseries, fruit salads, farmhouse yoghurt, various bread spreads and plump brioches topped with hazelnut chocolate. Then it's on to charcuterie, cheese, salads, croque-monsieur and gua baos with an Asian touch.
The waiters remind us to save room for dessert! Indeed, once you've enjoyed the generous and constantly replenished buffet, the drawers are opened to reveal a farandole of great cakes of all kinds. From chocolate fondant to strawberry tart, pistachio rhubarb tart, fruit dacquoise and mango-passion or lemon moelleux, the hardest part is choosing. We opt for a small piece of 3 cakes and we're ready to roll.
As long as you're here, you might as well take a stroll through the garden of scents that runs alongside the courtyard. Here, you'll discover the essences of the great perfume houses in a green and flowery setting.
