"With DOUZE, we wanted to rethink the beautiful superstore, where the collective plays a key role, decisive for everyone". This project, spearheaded by former Casino innovation director Jean Prévost, found its voice in Suzanne Grimal.
Participative financing later, a pavilion in the former military barracks renovated, and with ten artisans found, the Douze project can come to life! Like Beaupassage andEataly or Dock B, DOUZE aims to bring together artisans in a single location and compete with supermarkets.
At DOUZE, you can pick up a loaf of bread from Leonie bakery in the 17th arrondissement, buy fruit from Lille-based fruits de la terre, then cheese matured by Arras-based Jean-François Dubois, before browsing the stalls of fishmonger Mareyage Hennequin from Les Sables d'Olonnes, or Ah la vache butchery from Perche-based breeder Arnaud Billon. Also on hand will be charcuterie Christophe Fabre with his Charcuterie du Viala, Lyon-based Cafés Goneo and Béziers-based Mas des confitures. For wine-lovers, a cellar will be stocked by Johannes Marcon, a wine merchant based in Saint-Bonnet-le-Froid.
If you're feeling peckish, Douze is home to Thai caterer Oth Sombath and a restaurant run by chef Pablo Jacob, formerly of Le Bel Ordinaire and a regular at the Refugee Food Festival.
Located upstairs, the restaurant features a 30-cover dining room opening onto the kitchen and a garden terrace open in fine weather. The à la carte menu features simple recipes made with products from the artisans on the first floor. Each dish will be accompanied by the garnishes of the moment, to be shared by the whole table (when the sanitary situation allows it again.) We already salute the choice of offering a cheese cart!
In March, the dishes will be available for takeaway. Then, when the restaurants open, they will be available for tasting on site, indoors or on the terraces.
What a dynamic project for this new residential area, this former military barracks transformed into an eco-district with 600 homes, a municipal crèche and a 4800m² public garden.
