Since January 18, 2024, the town of Saint-Ouen in Seine-Saint-Denis has been home to an exceptional spot, a giant hall dedicated to food and festivities, considered to be the largest food court in Île-de-France! Called La Communale, the venue is designed to be popular and accessible to all! It's the place to be to meet your neighbors if you live in the area, meet artists or chat with chefs, all the while doing your shopping sustainably, thanks to the superb market.
Located in the Docks district, a fast-changing neighborhood close to the Seine, this market is open every day except Monday, from 8am to midnight. It's the perfect place to enjoy a meal at any time of day, for breakfast, lunch, afterwork, dinner, and even in the evening! Dedicated to gastronomy and culture, it takes place in a former Alstom factory, built in 1924 and transformed into a veritable living space, which promises a varied cultural program, including exhibitions, concerts, dance classes, workshops, conferences and other events by La Lune Rousse, the company already in charge of Ground Control.
Initially, the project was due to see the light of day in 2022, but has been slightly delayed. Designed by the Frey group, this festive hall is easily accessible by metro line 13 or 14, Mairie de Saint-Ouenstation. Comprising a large glass roof and an industrial-style central patio, La Communale features a number of food shops, including a butcher, an ice-cream maker, a cheese maker, an Italian grocer and a florist, as well as an organic food market featuring seasonal produce.
But as in any self-respecting food court, in another wing of the hall, you'll also find a dozen or so food kiosks featuring flavors from around the world: Taiwanese street-food, vegan, burgers, pies, pizza (made by real Italians!), Moroccan or Bolivian cuisine and other sweets, all of which you'll want to try, before settling down at the wooden tables, in the recup' and committed spirit of the place. And all at affordable prices! We tested the burger spot as well as "El Mochilero", with typical Latin American dishes, and we couldn't agree more!
And that's not all! There's a central bar, where you can enjoy fine wines, cocktails and beer brewed on site, as well as a shared kitchen open to all, equipped for gastronomic workshops and training courses. There's also a 300-seat auditorium for live music or stand-up comedy, an immersive space soon to be animated by artists, a conference center and 3,000m2 of co-working space for industry professionals.
A veritable gourmet den, where you can eat well, party hard and meet great people! Don't miss the varied program, available on the venue's social networks!
