Part coffee shop, part grocery store and part English restaurant, Very French Beans is a true British deli that brings pies, sausage rolls and cookies to Batignolles.

The idea behind Very French Beans is to break away from clichés and shout loud and clear that English cuisine is delicious. This is the idea behind Very French Beans, a genuine English deli that's part coffee shop, part grocery store and part restaurant in the heart of the Batignolles district. Behind the address are two friends and lovers of British culture, Marine Pourtauborde, who studied at Ferrandi and L'Atelier des Chefs, and Marine Cacciaguerra, the pastry chef of the two.

Like any good London deli, Very French Beans is open from breakfast to afternoon tea, to satisfy cravings at any time of day. In a warm, 'home-from-home' atmosphere, the address, which boasts a small terrace for sunny days, unveils simple, homemade cuisine and showcases some of the must-tries of English cuisine.

Prepared daily from fresh, seasonal produce carefully selected from trusted producers, the dishes are sure to make your mouth water. For breakfast, egg buns are served with a chai latte. For lunch, plump, tasty pies are served, with recipes changing every three months or so.

Which will you choose between the coconut and curry pie (cauliflower, potato, carrot, peas, cashew nuts, coconut milk and korma curry; €8.50), the sweet potato and goat cheese pie (roasted sweet potato, goat, red onion, spinach; €8.50) or the chicken, ham and terragon pie (chicken pie, tarragon and ham in creamy sauce; €8.50)? Each one is more tempting than the next!

Another lunch option is sandwiches (tuna salad, egg and cress, bacon and brie...), with a vegetarian option for those concerned. Lunch menus are affordable, at €14 for a pie menu with side dish or dessert and dessert; €13 for a sandwich menu with the same items. Enough to leave with a full belly, as the pies are particularly well-stocked.

As for the sides, you can opt for the indestructible tomatobeans (3.50€), but we can't recommend enough the sausage rolls (3.50€) filled with pork, apple, onion and fennel seeds. We're still licking our fingers. And for dessert, brownies, carrot cakes and cookies are a must!

If you want to leave with a full belly and a full bag, a trip to the grocery store is a must. Well-stocked, you'll find marmalades, chutneys, lemon curd and pickles, as well as spirits (whiskies, gins, ciders, beers) and teas to toast English culture.

Building on the success of Very French Beans, La Maison launched its English breakfast for a time, every Saturday from 10.30am to 2pm. And they'll be back soon! You'll find all the hallmarks of theEnglish breakfast - scrambled eggs, bacon, small sausages, beans with tomato, pan-fried mushrooms, toast and hash browns, to put you on English time even at the weekend!
