After the United States, we're off to the UK in the company of Captain Alexandre Chapier. Not content with his Blossom Burgers near the Gare de l'Est as one of Paris's top burger spots, the chef is now turning his hand to another gastronomy that's always based on conviviality: English cuisine, and more specifically, English pub food .
If some people's hair is already standing on end at the mention of oily fish and chips and flabby fries, they weren't counting on the mischief and talent ofAlexandre Chapier, who has more than one trick up his sleeve when it comes to making everything he touches delicious. With The Blossom Arms, the chef has created a pub with a 100% British ambience and a menu far more worthy of a quality pub than a low-rent one.
But be warned: The Blossom Arms is a pub, not a gastropub - a term coined in the '90s to describe pubs that make the effort to offer well-crafted dishes rather than assembly and reheating cuisine. While the food at The Blossom Arms certainly fits this description, the layout and ambience is that of a pub through and through.
Unlike a gastropub, which is divided into two areas - a bar on the first floor and a dining room upstairs - everything happens in one place. Leaning against the bar, seated at a table or in a high chair, you can have a drink and a bite to eat, while watching the match on the TV screen. Of course, the venue also broadcasts the year's major sporting events - rugby, soccer and probably the round ball and oval games at the Paris Olympics!
The menu at this pub, worthy of London's finest addresses, features top-quality, generous sea food: XXL fish&chips (19.5€) with a thin, crispy beer batter, competition grilled cheese sandwich (12.5€) with aged cheddar, fish burger (18.5€), crab bun with the same soft bread as at Blossom Burgers (12.5€), fried halloumi (12€) for fans, tuna melt sandwich (12.5€) and with spring coming soon ceviches and even a weekend brunch.
Of course, no good pub without good beer! Craft beers and Guinness flow freely, but the restaurant also offers a number of cocktails, including caffeinated beverages such as the Espresso Martini (10€), Irish Coffee (12€) and White Russian (10€). The prices are more than reasonable, especially for this part of Paris.
The Blossom Arms is the place to go for lovers of good beer and good food, as it brilliantly reworks the great English pub classics with good products, at affordable prices and in more than generous formats. Cheers!
