A must-attend festival for many metalheads in France and abroad, Hellfest returns to Clisson, once again showcasing hard rock, thrash metal, black metal, heavy metal, doom, death metal and alternative metal over four festive and explosive days and evenings.
The 2024 edition of Hellfest, not to be missed on Thursday June 27, Friday June 28, Saturday June 29 and Sunday June 30, once again promises festival-goers some memorable musical moments, thanks in particular to the presence of Metallica, Bruce Dickinson, Avenged Sevenfold, Megadeth, Machine Head, Tom Morello, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Mass Hysteria and Kerry King! So many bands and artists to see and hear on Mainstages 1 & 2. Hellfest also features four other stages, including theAltar. Adhered to its sister, the Temple, the Altar stage is essentially dedicated to death metal, but also to progressive metal.
If you're a fan of these different musical styles, then you're likely to spend some time under the tent in front of theAltar. That's why we've selected 5 bands and artists not to be missed this summer on the Altar stage at this year's Hellfest.
They're Scandinavians, and they play melodic death metal. They are the members of Dark Tranquillity. Pioneers and worthy representatives of the Swedish"melodeath" scene, the Gothenburg-based band won't shy away from playing and interpreting tracks from their rich discography. Old and new tracks, excerpts from their new album entitled"Endtime Signals", are sure to get festival-goers bopping on the Atlar stage!
They're French, and their progressive metal is as powerful as it is bewitching! They are the members of Klone. Originally from Poitiers, the band was called Sowat. In 1999, the band was renamed Klone. Today, Klone has nearly ten albums to its credit, including several live albums. This summer, Klone will be lighting up the Altar stage with their atmospheric sounds and spellbinding arrangements!
He is the charismatic vocalist with the powerful voice of Leprous. Einar Solberg is embarking on a solo career, and is taking advantage of his appearance at Hellfest to present his first solo album, entitled"16". This is an opportunity to (re)discover live the undeniable talent of this Norwegian-born Scandinavian songwriter and singer. Power and emotion will undoubtedly be at the heart of this eagerly-awaited set in Clisson.
Amorphis has been active in the world of atmospheric death metal for over 30 years. With Tomi Joutsen on vocals since 2005, the Finnish band is a household name. They love the stage, and they've always known the tricks of the trade when it comes to creating an overexcited, thunderous atmosphere. They'll prove it to you on Friday night when they play Hellfest. Hopefully, this will be an opportunity to hear some of their older and newer material.
A skilful blend of thrash metal and death metal, Dutch band Legion of the Damned are determined to turn the Altar stage upside down this summer when they play Hellfest. The band's last performance at the metal festival dates back to 2008. So, 16 years after their only appearance in Clisson, Legion of the Damned are still very much alive and kicking. As proof, the band released"The Poison Chalice" in 2023.
As you'd expect, this list is by no means exhaustive, and many other bands and artists are scheduled to take to the Altar stage at Hellfest from June 27 to 30, 2024. What are you planning to see on the Altar this year in Clisson?
