This is the story of a bakery with an exotic flair, whose ambition was to become a neighborhood meeting place. And it's opposite the garden of Montrouge town hall that this concept awaits us, bringing the wind of the south to the Paris region. La Boulangerie Méditerranéenne delights us at all hours with products concocted with passion, which we can savour on the go, take home or enjoy on the spot in this warm cocoon that makes us feel right at home. Because, yes, this spot wasn't just conceived as a place to pass through, but as a place to live, a neighborhood address where locals and strollers can meet on the terrace as well as indoors.
At La Boulangerie Méditerranéenne, you'll find the classics you can't live without: good sourdough bread, some made with ancient flours, Viennese pastries made according to the rules of the art, pastries... but that's not all! Because, as you've probably guessed, what also makes this bakery special is its flavours inspired by the four corners of the Mediterranean basin. A crossroads of cultures brought together in gourmet creations, whether savory or sweet.
Created by David Batty, a former food and lifestyle journalist, the restaurant is an ode to the Mediterranean basin and conviviality. From Provence toItaly, via the Maghreb and Levantine cuisine, we're at the crossroads of sun-drenched flavors cleverly revisited to become the address's specialties. The quiches, made on a croissant dough base, bring us that crunch that makes us melt with pleasure.
We're particularly fond of the tomato and harissa recipe, as well as the lively Niçoise pissaladière and the soft foccaccia, which can be eaten as is or garnished at home. For an on-the-go lunch, Boulangerie Méditerranéenne has also created a line of sandwiches with a southern accent, including a sandwich on a foccaccia base, another concocted from Hallah bread traditionally enjoyed at Shabbat time, and a revisited ham and butter.
On the sweet side, fans of flans will find here a highly vanilla-flavored version with a silky texture that should delight the most demanding. And don't miss the Cruffin, a cross between a croissant and a muffin whose filling changes with the seasons: on our visit, it was a mango and mint combo, a truly striking alliance! Babka is also on offer, with a classic chocolate version that can be found all year round, and an ephemeral recipe, in this case with cinnamon during our visit.
As for flan, this is serious business: here, we find it very vanilla-flavored, as evidenced by the many grains that appear when cut, with a silky texture, a good taste of fresh eggs that doesn't overpower the rest, and a relatively low-sugar recipe, highlighting the vanilla well. The perfect accompaniment to a good cup of coffee or a carefully selected artisanal beverage.
In short, the Boulangerie Méditerranéenne is one of those concepts for which, even if you're not a local, you feel ready to make the journey to
