Do you like Vietnamese specialties? If you do, go and discover the new James Bun Oberkampf, a Vietnamese canteen that is very delightful: a colorful and modern décor, a nice terrace, simple yet tasty dishes, all you need to treat you to a gourmet beak.
After a successful spot opened in 2016 in Les Batignolles area in Paris 17th arrondissement and 2 other tables in Créteil Soleil and Carré Sénart, James Bun keeps on developing and takes over Paris Rue d’Oberkampf to delight Asian food lovers. James Bun’s motto? Popularizing Vietnamese cuisine and providing tasty, fresh and affordable meals non stop from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m., so as a Parisian, it’s perfect.
On the menu then, you have the main Vietnamese specialties such as Bánh mì, the famous Viet sandwich combining meat and vegetables. Oberkamp spot provides a BBQ version with grilled chicken / Sriracha that you can’t find anywhere else, to try no matter what. You also have the beef, chicken or vegetarian versions, it’s up to you.
Of course, Bò Bùn is also available on the menu. Beef with lemongrass, chicken with ginger, char-grilled or salmon soy honey are also available. We must hail the origin of the meat: Maine d’Anjou, a PDO meat delivered by butcher Olivier Metzger. Please also note that carrots and cucumbers are organic and delivered every day by Les Jardins d’Albert to make sure ingredients are fresh.
And whoever speaks about Vietnam also speak about Phô, you know, this famous soup with rice noodles and this delicious grilled chicken beef or shrimp broth.
We absolutely loved the vegetarian spring roll with quinoa, Thai basil, edamame and soft cheese. It’s surprising but super crispy and delicious. At James Bun, it’s all about traditional with a French twist, we love this mix of nice ingredients and flavors.
Of course, don’t forget to enjoy your meal along with or start it with a nice homemade cocktail. We love the Aloé James based on aloe vera and lime cubes. A nice list if bubble teas is also available to fans. We tried the matcha version with tapioca, excellent.
We wrap it up with a classic dessert such as the Chè chuối or the excellent Belle Hanoi, a soft and gluten-free chocolate cake with coconut heart from Philippe Urraca’s, please!
Bon appétit!
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
