If you loved The Hood Asian cantina, which opened in 2015 and quickly became a neighborhood staple, then you're going to love the new project led by the same team, which is opening just across the street from The Hood, on rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud in Paris's 11th arrondissement!
Gourmets can now discover Nonette, the new banh-mi counter designed by The Hood team: Khanh-Ly Huynh in the kitchen and Pearlyn Lee at the helm! And we can tell you right away: Nonette is a huge success, judging by the line-up in front of the counter - we assure you, it's moving fast!
Takeaway at Nonette: street-food based on banh-mi for the savoury side, and donuts for the sweet. A duality explained by the Vietnamese origins and American culture of chef Khanh-Ly Huynh!
The idea for banh-mi came to Khanh-Ly Huynh in 2017: the day after a special Thanksgiving menu, Khanh-Ly had the idea of accommodating leftover turkey in a comforting sandwich while retaining theAsian, grassroots DNA dear to The Hood.
At Nonette, you'll find a summer menu of 5 banh-mi - and new recipes to discover in the autumn. We recommend the banh-mi Dac Biet (7.50€) with five meats, all prepared on site (!): jambon thit nguoi (pork belly like porchetta), cha lua (pork pâté with nuoc mam steamed in a banana leaf), xa xiu (marinated pork loin grilled and thinly sliced), cha bong (dehydrated pork loin with soy) and poultry liver pâté with shallots and soy. A generous banh-mi in which the various meats form a tasty whole.
We also really liked the Thit Ko banh-mi (8.5€), a banh-mi made with pork rillettes in caramel, for a pleasantly sweet-savory touch. Enhanced with bird's eye chili pickles to warm up the taste buds!
We toast this wonderful discovery with a bubble tea of green tea, lemon and honey (7€) with fine tapioca pearls, and move on to dessert: donuts!
At Nonette, the donuts are regressive and topped with a choice of 3 original creams, including kaya (1.80€), the famous coconut milk pastry, and the astonishing vanilla-black garlic cream (2.50€). Far from being too fatty or too heavy, Nonette's doughnuts are light and make a delicate end to lunch.
A new street address that's already enchanting the neighborhood!
