Hasard, a French bistro where you can eat, drink and... scratch

A French bistro where you can eat, drink and try your luck at scratch cards. Rather... unusual. No mystery, it's all happening at Hasard!

Here's a rather... original bistro: the restaurant Hasard, a new establishment where you can eat and drink from morning till night, but also try your luck at games of chance. Not an address for everyone, that's for sure, or at least not in moderation.

Hasard intends to revive the tradition of the neighborhood "troquet", open from early morning for a coffee and croissant at the counter, through to lunch, where traditional French dishes are served day after day.

A warm and lively restaurant, in the manner of the local cafés in the villages of France, where it's not surprising that you can try your luck at the scratch cards you can order at the table or counter. And there's no mistaking the people who come here - a delightful mix of local old-timers playing cards and 421, active youngsters breaking bread at lunchtime, and gangs of friends out for a good time after dark.

To modernize this very French tradition while retaining the popular soul of a neighborhood restaurant, the Depict studio designed a décor with vintage and antique furniture, such as the famous Formica chairs. Everything smacks of the 70s, from the long zinc counter to the neon lights that illuminate the restaurant's name, and the slates showing the prices of slightly outdated alcohols (Ricard, Suze, Kir royal...) at affordable prices.

In the kitchen, Italian chef Matteo Renzi creates a traditional menu at lunchtime, and plates to share with guests in the evening (calf's head croquettes, sardines and confit potatoes, oysters), all with a seasonal and ecological approach. For lunch, we sampled frogs' legs with roasted buckwheat (10€) and a fine slice of homemade terrine (pork, poultry and pickles; 7€).

The all-too-rare pleasure of finding stuffed cabbage (14€) on the à la carte menu, a tasty vegetarian version; and the more common but undisguised pleasure of biting into the particularly au gratin croque-monsieur (15€).

The floating island (6€) gobbled up, we left the place with the impression of having taken a leap back in time, 40 years in the past!
