Looking for a restaurant that combines good food and conviviality, while remaining affordable? Then it's time to take your sneakers down to Avenue Trudaine and discover Coucou Café, the bistro run by the Pantruchoise team, who have already created such excellent addresses as Pantruche, Caillebotte and Café Mirette.
When you arrive, you discover a room that combines white walls, wood panelling and vintage mirrors in a retro-chic ambiance. The central bar turns out to be an open kitchen where you can watch the little hands at work, ready to regale us with their savoir-faire. On sunny days, a small terrace is set up to let us enjoy the sunshine, when it shows up.
In the kitchen, the chef and her team prepare beautifully mastered bistronomic dishes. At Coucou café, vegetables are king, and they're used in all sorts of ways. Filter coffee, natural wine, gourmet cookies, combinations of tradition and originality, that's what awaits you here. We love the creativity of the plates, which create beautiful, sometimes unexpected, but ultimately harmonious combinations.
In short, you'll have understood that this is a beautiful, authentic address where everything is homemade from A to Z, all without emptying the wallet, so of course you'll want to make it your canteen. The starter + main course or main course + dessert menu costs 23€. In the evening, starter + main course + dessert is 41€.
During our visit, we were seduced by the excellent melting ribs, accompanied by marinated cockles and topped with sweet and sour cabbage. We loved this pretty marriage of land and sea, which woke up our sleepy taste buds. Don't miss out on the fresh vegetable tempura - to try it is to love it. The white tuna tataki in beef broth with broad beans and asparagus is a great short-lived discovery.
For the main course, meat or fish, it's up to you. For two, we choose both to share. A ballotin of fish, shredded beef accompanied by carrots and sweet potatoes in different textures, cabbage stuffed with glutinous rice and a caramelized endive tatin, and we're well on our way to a delicious moment.
For a sweet finish, try the famous seasonal strawberry tart with cashew praline and the cocoa brioche with cardamom ice cream, topped with a frothy chocolate cream.
In short, if you're looking for a friendly address in the 9th arrond issement where you can eat well and enjoy good food at affordable prices, think Coucou Café! The restaurant is open Monday to Saturday, lunch and dinner.
