Nemesis is the new artisan kebab shop in the 18th arrondissement. Created by Karl Nehmé, Nemesis at 122 rue Caulaincourt opened in October 2023. The restaurant has two other addresses, another Nemesis restaurant in the 17th and the Four libanais, offering sandwiches as well as Lebanese pizzas.
The front of the restaurant is simple but effective, with a retro feel. The small terrace is the perfect place to sit down at any time of day and devour your sandwich, watching the hustle and bustle of Rue Caulaincourt. The restaurant also offers a few tables inside, where you can watch the cooks prepare your sandwiches before your very eyes.
The menu starts with mezzes, followed by sandwiches with or without side dishes. We start our meal with homemade falafel, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Then we try the homemade eggplant caviar (there are two sizes to choose from.), accompanied by homemade Lebanese bread, cut into very thin slices and perfect for dipping in the eggplant caviar.
Our meal continues with sandwiches. We choose the Némésis Kebab, a spit-roasted sandwich of homemade veal and turkey, with a choice of lettuce, tomatoes, onions and homemade sauce, surrounded by Lebanese bread. The three homemade sauces have different flavors: A slightly spicy red mayonnaise, a white yogurt sauce, and a green parsley sauce.
Also on the menu is the Nemesis Sharwarma chicken, a cult Lebanese sandwich, with salad, Lebanese pickles and homemade garlic cream. A final option is the Nemesis falafel, with falafel, tomatoes, Lebanese pickles, fresh mint and parsley, and a tahini sauce (a sesame seed wing sauce). To accompany the sandwich, you can have fries for an extra €3 and fries + a drink for an extra €4.
The Nemesis kebab is quite hearty and the taste really differs depending on the sauce you choose inside. The meat is very good and not too fatty. When they prepare your sandwich, they toast it again at the end, and this adds a little crunch to the bread, mixed with the tenderness of the meat. As for the shawarma, once again it's not very fatty and contains no superfluous ingredients. The crunch of the Lebanese pickles goes very well with the marinated chicken and garlic cream. A really good Lebanese sandwich. The fries are very well cooked and homemade. We recommend asking for sauces to dip the fries in!
We then finish with a dessert, even though we're no longer very hungry, a Lebanese flan. The flan is flavored with cardamom and covered with a thin layer of honey and pistachio. A seemingly hearty dessert that's actually quite light to finish the meal.
