Le Dame des Arts, a stone's throw from the Fontaine Saint-Michel and Notre Dame de Paris, offers an elegant yet simple setting, with contemporary Mexican cuisine by chef Othoniel Alvarez Castanedan. The chef, of Mexican origin, also highlights his taste for Japanese cuisine in his recipes.
Behind the hotel's reception desk, you'll find a refined room with subdued colors, followed by a small garden where you can relax on sunny days. The entire hotel has been redecorated by designer Raphael Navot, and boasts a collection of over 700 works of art. The materials and furnishings are designed to make you feel comfortable and at ease.
The lunch and dinner menus are different, and all the dishes at Le Dame des Art are homemade. The chef proposes an eco-responsible menu, working with local producers to favorshort circuits. We started with starters such as esquites, duck tataki and sea bream tostada. The esquites is a corn tempura with a secret mayonnaise and Cotija cheese, a Mexican cheese that can be likened to Greek feta.
Duck tataki is thinly sliced and marinated with dill, trout roe and a hazelnut soy sauce. A combination that works very well, mellowing the taste of the duck without hiding it. We then tried the sea bream tostadas, which are beautifully presented. The tostadas are topped with Greek yogurt, jalapenos and lime, and are very pleasant as a starter. We advise you to take one each if there are several of you, as they're not really sharable.
The menu features fish, meat and a vegetarian option. The sea bass en papillote in a banana leaf is very well cooked, and the butter and white miso sauce that accompanies it takes us back to the Japanese flavors appreciated by chef Othoniel Alvarez Castanedan. The chicken tacos with corn tortilla are topped with an avocado and lime cream and are lightly spiced. The plate is hearty and perfect for sharing.
As for desserts, the chef offers typical Mexican desserts such as buñuelos, which in Mexico are stuffed or filled doughnuts. Instead of a doughnut, the dessert is in the form of a waffle, topped with croissant ice cream and cocoa dulce de leche. The lighter jalapenos sorbet is worth the detour to round off the meal. Accompanied by a shot of tequila, to be drunk alongside or added to the sorbet, its slightly spicy, tangy taste with lime is very pleasant on the palate.
The restaurant is open every day from 7am to midnight. You can also come and enjoy their brunch, available every Sunday from 12:00 to 15:00.
