Henri Cartier-Bresson is famous for his eye, his incredible talent to seize a gorgeous scene in a shot, without staging. The Foundation devoted to the French photographer teaches us a little lesson to walk in the footsteps of the master: from July 1 to September 25, 2022, come and visit the “L’Expérience du paysage” exhibition and discover how the artist used to build his pictures.
In this 70-photograph selection, one follows Henri Cartier-Bresson in his peregrinations in Europe, Asia and America. Between the 1930’s and the 1990’s, the artist kept on exploring the world and immortalizing the settings he saw. With his skilled eye, trained by years of paintings, he used to spot places which beauty can be seen on paper, places coming to life in the photographer’s lens.
With the arrival of a new person, a change of light, a harmonious viewpoint, the landscapes changing and shifting in one moment. These temporary scenes are built by the artist and his camera.
Henri Cartier-Bresson’s talent stays in his oh-so special look, this poetry he sees in atypical landscapes that could be seen as common or desertic.
This photo exhibition completes with a selection of drawings made by the photographer. These works allow to see and understand the way the artist composes his landscapes better, using perspectives, geometry, human figures… A feeling of peace and meditation can be felt from these pieces taken unposed, and that seem yet to be finely composed like a poem.
Head to the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson for a magnificent stroll surrounded by pictures likely to give you a few tips and tricks to walk in the footsteps of the artist…
