The Motte-Picquet district is waking up to the opening of a brand-new restaurant for the summer months, a welcome change from the neighborhood's traditional brasseries. Named Abstinence, this stylishly decorated new venue invites us to reunite with friends and good food after long months... of abstinence!
Lucas Felzine, formerly of Ze Kitchen Galerie alongside William Ledeuil, and now chef at Uma in Paris, is probably familiar to you.
As for the menu, Abstinence opts for conviviality, with a multitude ofplates to share, some small, some truly generous. Settled under the beautiful glass roof or on the sunny terrace, you're ready to discover chef Lucas Felzine 's cuisine!
Starting with the excellent Landes white asparagus, jasmine and candied egg yolk (14€), the delicately spiced artichoke cream with summer truffle and fried peppers (13€) and the egg mayo mimosa topped with a generous spoonful of caviar (28€). Enough to get our legs and mouths in the best possible shape for what's to come.
Next on the menu are the gnocchi with peas and gorgonzola (12€), which we're delighted with; the gastro mini-burgers, which are truly original, withsweetbreads (22€) and a hint of horseradish for extra zing, and baby spinach for freshness; and finally, the grilled octopus with zucchini and cucumber cream (26€).
Granted, prices aren't the cheapest in the area, but if you prefer to trust the chef with your eyes closed, take note that a daily menu at 35€ changes according to arrivals and chef Lucas Felzine's whims!
For those with a sweet tooth, don't forget the banana and chocolate churros (9€), which remind us of our fondest summer carnival memories, or the original ice creams and sorbets turbinated on site.
In the evening,Abstinence transforms itself into a wine bar, featuring some 50 fine organic and biodynamic bottles, as well as signature cocktails .
A lovely address to discover this summer!
