he 2024 edition of the Grand Prix de la Pâtisserie de la Ville de Paris has just come to a close, revealing exceptional talent in the art of pastry-making. Initiated by the City of Paris in collaboration with the famous pastry chef Pierre Hermé, this prestigious competition is an opportunity for pastry chefs, bakers and head pastry chefs from Parisian hotels and restaurants to showcase their skills. And why not follow in the footsteps of Jordan Talbot and Quentin Lechat, now renowned names in the field.
If in the past, we waited for the winner of the Grand Prix de la Baguette, today it's the creativity of artisan patissiers that Paris also celebrates.
On the program:
A captivating theme: This year, candidates had to work on the theme " the values of sport ", echoing the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. However, please note that the Olympic flame, rings or mascot were not to be depicted.
A local touch: Each creation must incorporate at least one Parisian ingredient. You can work with the network of Parisculteurs or "Fabriqué à Paris" label holders to find this unique ingredient.
Criteria for winning the prize :
On the professional side, 12 entries were submitted, while in the Young Talents category, 7 entries were received from students at Mederic, Ferrandi, CEPROC and the École Boulangerie et Pâtisserie de Paris. At an event this afternoon at the headquarters of the Syndicat des Boulangers-Pâtissiers du Grand Paris, 19 candidates presented their creations.
For the third edition of the Grand Prix de la Pâtisserie de la Ville de Paris 2024, Raamin Samiyi of Momzi patisserie in Paris's 2nd arrondissement was awarded a €4,000 prize for his work"Opéra de plongeon". Meanwhile, Baptiste Willot, apprentice at La Sphère Gourmande, won this year's Jeunes Talents prize for his creation "La Pomod'Oro". This success opens the door to a one-week internship with Pierre Hermé.
The Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, will honor the winners at a special ceremony at Hôtel de Ville on November 27. It will be the culmination of a highly competitive career marked by creativity and savoir-faire.
"I'm very proud of the enthusiasm this professional event has generated since 2019. Every year, Parisian pastry chefs surprise us with their technique and creativity. Encouraging the new generation is essential, so we're very proud to launch the Jeune Talent prize. We're delighted to have two Parisian men and two Parisian women on our jury, chosen by lottery. A big well done to this year's candidates, who have found both inventive and gourmet ways to showcase local products, while at the same time promoting sport through their creativity ", says Nicolas Bonnet Oulaldj, deputy mayor of Paris in charge of trade, crafts, liberal professions, art and fashion.
" A competition such as this helps to promote our pastry-making expertise throughout the world, and encourages us to imagine new combinations of flavours, new shapes and new textures. The theme chosen, based on the values of sport, highlights certain points in common between our universes, such as discipline, perseverance, doggedness and respect. I'm very honoured to be the patron of this wonderful event," explains Pierre Hermé, chef-chocolatier.
The jury, made up of renowned experts such as Gérard Tempion, Jordan Talbot and Pierre Hermé, of course, for the professionals, and Pascal Barillon and Laurent Le Daniel for the young talents, had the difficult task of selecting the best from a host of talented candidates. The presence of Parisian citizens on the jury added a touch of authenticity and proximity to the competition.
