At Louie Louie, they speak Italian in the kitchen - and that's a small detail that doesn't deceive. This Italian restaurant with a funny name opened on rue de Charonne in November 2015. Behind its glass door, a long room with a sober and Scandinavian decor , already filled with good foodies sitting between the stone walls, or perched on the seats at the bar. Some dine quietly while others sip their cocktail in a joyful and friendly atmosphere.
To start, we take a long look at the cocktail menu. The lucky ones: a Bottled Vieux carré, quite strong, and a delicious Back to Basil made with Stolichnaya Blue Vodka, homemade pepper syrup, olive oil, squeezed lemon juice, egg white, fresh basil and top soda. Now we know for sure: Louie Louie is indeed the little brother of the Moonshiner!
Settled in the quiet corner next to the open kitchen, the smell of the pizzas soon tickled our nostrils and whetted our appetites.
For starters, we opt for the creamy Burrata with capers, pepper and olive oil - absolutely delicious. But it's better to share it in order to keep some space for the pizzas...
And here they are! Despite the crowd and the rush hour, the service is very efficient and the chefs are gesticulating in all directions in the middle of the kitchen. They do not lose their good mood, joking and laughing between two cuts.
Among a nice panel of pizzas, all of which are equally pleasing (and a salad for the figure), we chose the Diavola (San Marzano tomato sauce, Fior di latte, Spianata piquante, Ricotta and Basil), spicy but to die for, and the Dano (San Marzano tomato sauce, Burrata, tomato confit and pesto), which is incomparably fresh.
These pizzas are certainly as fine, creamy and gluttonous as those from the Botte. With a small glass of Italian red wine: Bonissimo!
After such a meal, we unfortunately don't have much room left for dessert. But we will happily come back to try the Banana Split, theAffogato or the Baba au rhum, and discover other delicious pizzas!
A word of advice: it's better to make a reservation to be sure to get a table. Otherwise, Louie Louie also makes pizzas to go.
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
