Years after opening their first successful address, Jinchan Shokudo, Miyo and Alban Cacace are back at it again with a second restaurant, a stone's throw from Place de la République, called Jinchan Yokocho. For this second restaurant, the Franco-Japanese couple have taken the Japanese touch even further, with an immersive decor that immerses gourmets in the atmosphere of yokocho, the typical Japanese alleyway.
Designed by Takano Architecture, Jinchan Yokocho 's retro decor blends many traditional elements, including neon signs, dark wood walls, chochin curtains and lanterns, and a street-art mural by artist Paiheme. In the dining room, we sit in front of the open kitchen, where everything happens.
While the decor is based on folklore, the menu has been designed to demonstrate that Japanese gastronomy is not limited to the art of sushi, as another traditional specialty is highlighted: Japanese curry, much milder than Indian curry, made with Kyoto spices. Like the duo's first address, Jinchan Yokocho 's unique feature is that here, everything is homemade using French productsor products imported directly from Japan by carefully selected producers.
In detail, this means: organic French fruit and vegetables, organic eggs from Normandy, halal chicken from Brittany, and for products that cross the globe, Miyo and Alban have set up their own food import company, Jinchan Foods, to guarantee fresh quality products with impeccable traceability. This cutting-edge sourcing enabled Jinchan Shokudo to become the first Japanese restaurant in France to be awarded the Ecotable label.
Japanese curry is available in 4 different donburi recipes (generous bowls of rice topped with various toppings), such as the Katsu currydon (panko-breaded chicken thighs, Japanese curry, Niigata rice; 15€) or the more original Mont d'Or currydon (baked Mont d'Or with Japanese curry, Niigata rice; 16€), perfect for the season. 3 fish donburi are also available. A word of advice: add an ajitsuke tamago (a marinated soft-boiled egg; +2€), for guaranteed naughtiness.
For starters, trust Chef Miah and his brigade, for whom generosity and comfort come first, as with these nanbanzuke (slices of Bomlo salmon fried then marinated in a vinegared dashi; 9€), or the incredibly tender Teriyaki chicken (chicken sautéed in homemade teriyaki sauce and served with Japanese mayonnaise; 9€). For dessert, the unmissable dorayaki filled with Hokkaido red azuki beans (6€) are also on the menu!
When it comes to drinks, it's 100% Japanese once again, with a wide choice of sake (pure or in cocktails), Japanese craft beers (including beer from the Isekado brewery on tap), yuzunnade (5€) and Ramune in various flavors (the famous fizzy drink containing a small glass marble; 4.50€). Kids will love it, too, with their own menu (12€)!
