Pastel de Nata fans are in for a treat: Canelas, a Portuguese patisserie, has just opened on Canal Saint-Martin!

No need to hop on a plane for delicious Pastels de Nata! Maison Canelas, founded over 40 years ago by the Gonçalves family in Pierrefitte-sur-Seine, has set up shop a stone's throw from the Canal Saint-Martin, opening its first Portuguese patisserie in Paris, Canelas, to the delight of Parisian sweet tooths.

Like a genuine pastelaria portuguesa, behind its traditional tiled storefront, Canelas unveils the finest Portuguese specialities, both sweet and savoury, all made on the premises from carefully sourced raw materials. King of the menu is the unmissable Pastel de Nata, as crisp as it is creamy.

On the sweet side, in addition to pastels, Canelas also offers gourmets the Bola de Berlim, a doughnut filled with custard, the Pastel de Feijao, a nest of puff pastry enclosing an almond and white bean cream, the Tigelada, a sweet with a flan-like texture, the Bolo de Arroz, a small cake with a muffin-like texture, and the Pao-de-Lo, a soft, airy sponge cake.

On the savoury side, there's plenty to discover too, with specialities that are still little-known in Paris. These include Pastel de Bacalhau, a crispy potato and cod fritter, Rissol de Carne, a half-moon-shaped fritter filled with beef, Pao com Chourico, a bread filled with slices of chorizo, and a selection of hot dishes and soups to enjoy on the spot.

No need to go to Portugal, all these marvels are in Paris. Your carbon footprint will thank you!
