Nostalgia alert - get ready to embark on an enchanting journey through childhood. From Wednesday, March 20 to Thursday, May 9, 2024, the Galerie Gallimard becomes the setting for a free exhibition featuring the original plates of your favorite heroine: Martine. A tribute orchestrated by Casterman, the proud guardians of this literary treasure, which celebrates its 70th anniversary this year.
Martine, the cheerful, inquisitive little girl born in 1954 from the imagination of Marcel Marier and Gilbert Delahaye, is much more than just a children's book icon. She embodies the very essence of childhood and innocence in an ever-changing world, offering little readers an example of positivity. Like a faithful friend, she has accompanied many children through the social and cultural changes of our era, depicted in 60 collector's albums.
Martine's first escapades took place in a world bathed in the optimism of the Trente Glorieuses, an era full of incredible innovations in leisure, transport, domestic life and consumer trends. Then, in the 1970s, she took on more and more initiatives, echoing theemancipation of women that was gaining momentum outside the home. She became a daring young woman, independent and eager to discover new things. Dancing, sailing, cooking, swimming - Martine knows how to do it all, and draws children into her exciting adventures with every turn of the page!
And what about the 1980s and 1990s? Martine is not afraid to evolve in an increasingly complex world. During this period, nature was omnipresent in her world. Plants, animals, ecosystems: she looked after them with particular care, as did society, increasingly aware of environmental issues.
But the story doesn't end there! Even today, despite the disappearance of the authors, Martine continues to amaze us. Thanks to new scenarios from Casterman, she's now exploring Paris and its iconic settings (the Louvre, the Opéra, Le Bon Marché...), ready for new adventures!
There's also an area for youngsters, and a boutique stocked with the famous albums, as well as marinières, stationery and posters .
So, dear young and old alike, don't miss this opportunity to rediscover Martine's timeless charm, by taking a closer look at the original drawings that have captivated millions of readers around the world!
