If you're a fan of pork, you'll find Club Cochon in the Passage des Panoramas, the new bistro for charcuterie lovers. As the name suggests, the star of the menu is pork, in all its forms, from head to toe, and particularly in the form of pig sandwiches at lunchtime.
In the evening, the atmosphere changes and Club Cochon transforms itself into a tapas bar x wine bar, as the other mainstay of the address is also the pinard. It couldn't be more French. And the natural vintages are all from France's terroir, with no less than 80 references on the menu, carefully selected by Valentin, the sommelier, in association with Joseph, the trained pastry chef who runs the place.
On the menu, astonishing pig carpaccio, sardine cream and samphire (12€), all-pig pâté en croûte (10€), black pudding and homemade purée (17€), pig tartar and julienne of crisp vegetables (15€). As for lunchtime sandwiches, a mythical trio: ham and butter (9€), homemade porchetta rolled in herbs (15€), Morteau hotdog (12€), or how to introduce pork through international recipes, from Italy to France via Japan, with a pork tonkatsu salad (17€).
While the idea is a good one, and in line with the French desire to consume local and terroir-based products, it's worth noting that on our visit, everything was a little too salty for our taste - grains of coarse salt on the black pudding, a very salty salicorne combined with sardines that are just as salty, making the taste of the pig in carpaccio a little lost. Is the chef in love?
This is the place to go for a bite to eat with your fellow scoundrels.
