Among the many Chinese , Vietnamese and Thai restaurants that populate the 13ᵉ arrondissement of Paris, you're not sure how to choose? We'll point you in the direction of our best addresses, the sure-fire places to go for a treat every time. Among these addresses, we invite you to discover New Hao Khoan, a restaurant tucked away in a courtyard that's never empty.
To get there, you'll have to pass a porch opposite the exit from the Masséna parking lot on avenue de Choisy. By the way, if you're coming by car, this parking lot is the perfect place to avoid the hassle of finding parking. Otherwise, the Porte de Choisy metro or tramway is just around the corner. The house has recently been refurbished to make it even more welcoming. In summer, a few tables are set up in front of the restaurant to make the most of the fine weather.
You only have to look inside to realize that it's full of Asians, which, let's face it, is often a sign of quality. In this restaurant, as in most 13ᵉ restaurants, don't expect to spend three hours. New Hao Khoan is a quick-service canteen, which can be a good plan when you want to eat without waiting too long, but less so for a romantic tête-à-tête, unless your dream is to eat shrimp ravioli galore, as a duo.
On the menu, a wide range of vapors, from rice pancakes to dim sum, bites of all kinds and a nice choice of salads. For our part, we opt for the crispy, homemade shrimp ravioli and thespicy Thai beef salad.
Dishes include stir-fried noodles and rice prepared in a variety of ways. We love the Cantonese rice and the rice loc lac, which we highly recommend, with an egg, of course! As for the noodles, we're seduced by the meat version, which mixes meat and seafood. Portions are generous, so don't bite off more than you can chew. We ordered two portions of Cantonese rice and took a full portion home...
Of course, you can't go without the grilled meats, with their assortment of fragrant lacquered meats. If you're a vegetarian, there's a wide choice of dishes to choose from, from tofu stir-fry or tofu marmite to vegetable noodles. Fans of noodle soups are in for a treat. The choice ranges from Vietnamese phô to shrimp ravioli soups, with or without noodles.
Serve with homemade soy milk or coconut juice. Finally, we end the meal with the inevitable sou-xa, also known as the three-colored dessert, made with coconut juice. It's very tasty and well-balanced. Note that the whole thing is affordable, and the 3 of us manage to get by for €70, without having restricted ourselves on the dishes.
