Italian food lovers are always on the lookout for good addresses, and it could be that the editors have found a nugget in their field... Let's go to Orto, a restaurant specialized in panino, the real one, the one you can find in any good sandwich shop in Italy (the"Paninoteche" for the connoisseurs). And at Orto, it's the product that takes precedence over everything else!
This shop was created by Antoine and Benjamin, two childhood friends whose Italian grandparents immigrated to France at the same time and knew each other. After school, the two friends used to meet at the nonna' s house to eat good panini ! An image that has remained and that led them to create their first establishment in Toulouse in 2019. Building on their success, a first restaurant opened in Paris in mid-November, and the two panini lovers intend to conquer the capital!
On the menu, panini made with products straight from Italy! So we succumb to the Firmino, including mortadella with truffle, tartufata, potato parmiggiana, mozzarella di buffala DOP and hazelnuts, but also to the Meta and its IGP speck, its DOP basil pesto, its eggplant parmiggiana, its mozzarella di buffala DOP, its fresh basil and its pistachios
The Stracci, a panino with salame milano, DOP basil pesto, marinated grilled zucchini, burrata stracciatella, fresh basil and hazelnuts, or the Calabrese with spianata piccante, basil pesto, marinated grilled peppers, mozzarella di buffala, N'Duja calabrese (a Calabrian hot sausage spread) and hazelnuts.
Or you can opt for the Veggi, a vegetarian panino, or the Buona Terra, made with mortadella, grilled vegetable sauce, pecorino with pepper and potato parmiggiana... We let you discover the rest of the menu! A menu that we have also been able to test ... We let ourselves be tempted by a sure value, the Meta, a great classic of panini including speck (smoked and dried pork meat, less fatty than the raw ham, NDLR), pesto, hazelnuts, eggplant parmiggiana and mozzarella.
A particularly tasty sandwich that is strangely light compared to the size and generosity of the panino, thanks in particular to its ultra-light ciabatta bread, produced locally by a neighborhood bakery and respectful of Antoine's grandmother's recipes. A panino that made us travel straight to Italy, thanks of course to the 100% Italian products that make up the sandwich, just like there. We even let ourselves be tempted by the extra arugula, which brings a little boost to the whole, with a little extra bitterness that blends perfectly with the balance of flavors of the sandwich.
In short, a great discovery that we highly recommend, especially if you like traditional Italian cuisine. And you could even let yourself be tempted by a dessert (tiramisu, pana cotta, panino with nicocciolata...) if you still have some space left (it wasn't the case for us, but we'll take our revenge!). Otherwise, panini are also available on delivery platforms... Let's go and discover Orto, friends?
