Just a stone's throw from the charming Place Sainte-Marthe, a haven for bon vivants and party-goers wedged between the Canal Saint-Martin and the bustling Boulevard de Belleville, Martha Paris opened its doors a short while ago and has been delighting local residents ever since. It has to be said that the address, still a secret, has everything to please and proves to be particularly convivial.
Both a wine cellar and a grocery store, Martha Paris is the brainchild of Bastien Sion, an aesthete with a passion for wine, local produce and his neighborhood. He has opened a place in his own image, where friends can gather around a glass of good wine andplates to share.
For the beverages, UMA takes care of the soft drinks and Vin des Potes handles the selection of reds and whites. The wine list features clean, organic wines from winemakers hand-picked for their ecological and human values.
And for all that, the good skittles are more thanaffordable, shattering the preconceived notion that natural wine is only for the Parisian bobo elite. You can take away a bottle of white from 16€ (cellar price; 26€ on site) and red from 14€ (cellar price; 24€ on site).
Dishes range from €5 to €13, including smoked cheddar and pastrami grilled cheese (€11) with vegetarian option, basil oil hummus (€6) and smoked haddock accras (€13) dipped in sweet and sour sauce.
Also worth tasting is the generous plate of good cheeses (12€) carefully sourced in France, not forgetting the excellent smoked labneh (7€) with its almost buttery texture.
Solids and liquids are also available to take away, so you can bring a little piece of Martha Paris home with you!
