Strasbourg Saint-Denis is one of the capital's liveliest districts. This one is much less imposing than the real Arc de Triomphe at the top of the Champs-Elysées, but this monument, erected in 1672 by architect François Blondel to commemorate the victories of Louis XIV, marked the entrance to an ancient wall that protected Paris and still marks the area with its presence today.
A little higher up, on the Gare de l'Est side, the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul district is characterized by a more peaceful atmosphere - it has to be said that the Saint-Martin canal is just a stone's throw away! It takes its name from theSaint-Vincent-de-Paul church, a neoclassical basilica built in the 19ᵉ century built on Place Franz Liszt.
