Pink Koï Paris is the name of this new restaurant in the heart of Paris, located in the Halles district, opposite the Bourse de Commerce - Fondation Pinault and ideally adjacent to the famous Au Pied de cochon restaurant. So let's head to 8 rue Coquillière in the 1st arrondissement to discover this trendy new spot.
On arrival, we discover a pretty terrace that should work well in fine weather. With its narrow facade, you'd never guess that inside you'll find an immense 800 m2 restaurant with no less than 5 different decorated areas. With its different zones ranging from counters, bar and kitchen to more intimate corners and large rooms able to accommodate large tables for families and large groups, the restaurant has something for everyone.
The restaurant took 2 years to build. It has to be said that the spot incorporates a great deal of technology. If you like the concept of an immersive restaurant, then you'll love the new Pink Koï Paris, which aims to set the bar high and stand the test of time.
Once inside the restaurant, everything is there to impress: interactive projections on the floor to walk on the sand or among the fish, steps that light up when you go down to the toilet, animated columns and ceilings, 100% Japanese decorations and furniture. Our eyes sparkle. We're informed that the spaces, which can be privatized, can even be animated to suit the customers (imagine projections of fashion shows on the columns during fashion week, for example).
The kitchen is open for all to see. The chefs can be seen busy making sushi, or launching the cooking of the famous Japanese Robata. Under the leadership of Chef Zuo, Pink Koï Paris has decided to showcase this cooking method. Inspired by the ancient Japanese cooking technique, the Robata is an open charcoal-fired grill with different cooking levels and various accessories for cooking all types of food.
We were able to experiment with the cooking of Iberian pork served in a gua bao and whole mackerel from Norway, a wonderful discovery.
The menu features Japanese fusion cuisine of international inspiration, with unique and original creations such as the delicious KakiKajitsu (oysters in Japanese vinegar jelly with a red fruit vinegar granita) or the astonishing Tori Teriyaki (chicken fillet marinated in squid ink, teriyaki butter sauce and homemade mashed potatoes). We're told that 85% of the ingredients are of Japanese origin.
The Hamashi yuzu Kosjo (yellow tail carpaccio with black truffle oil and spicy yuzu), the Dobin Mushi and its delicious dashi broth with white fish and shiitake or the miso grilled eggplants are all tempting, not forgetting the superb Suzuki Passhonfurutsu with raw sea bass marinated in passion fruit.
We're particularly fond of wagyu sushi, which involves a whole ceremonial process of preparation and, in the end, melts in your mouth. The grains of rice stand out just as they should, because the house uses a special rice imported from the town of Fukiu Ken, cooked in Japanese mountain water, which is milder than the water we use here. They are currently the only ones in Europe to use this technique, which enables them to retain the original flavor. We also love the 10-ingredient Spicy Beef Tartare.
Fans of raw fish won't want to miss the Ozara platter of rolls, sashimi and sushi (42 pieces), ideal for 3 good eaters or two bon vivants. It's also a great option for groups wishing to share a little of everything.
Dessert is no slouch either, with the Pink Koï platter featuring exotic fruits, sorbets, yuzu cheese cake and chocolate fondant. The house also makes beautiful cocktails and house mocktails for you to try.
Affordable lunchtime menus range from €20 for starter+main course or main course+dessert to €25 for starter+main course+dessert. We recommend this spot in the evening, when the lighting effects and bubbling atmosphere come to life. The restaurant also aims to be festive, and currently offers DJ set evenings every Saturday (and soon from Thursday to Saturday). See all à la carte prices and menus in the photo album.
In short, if you're looking for a good Japanese restaurant that's as beautiful as it is good, all in a lively evening atmosphere, this is an address to take note of. Head for Pink Koï Paris! The restaurant is open every day except Sunday.
